Welcome to 2nd grade

Greetings,
Welcome to 2nd grade! I am so excited for the new year to begin. This blog will act as our bi-weekly newsletter. I will update this site every other week. I would like to share a few things with you about our first week of school.
The most important thing for the first week of school is that I know how your child will get to and from school every day. If you have any type of change in your child's transportation you must call the office or send a note. Please note that car line is not the same as parent pick up. Car line is when you drive through the car pick up line with a car tag. Parent pick up is when you park, and walk into the building to get your child. Sometimes this can be confusing.
During the first week of school we will focus mostly on classroom rules and routines. We will practice what SOAR behavior looks like and discuss what is expected at school. When students become active listeners they become active learners. Becoming an active listener will be our main focus this year. This year I will also be very focused on students following the rules first time around. The first week of school is also a week of getting to know one another. We will do a lot of team building activities that will teach students to trust and work together.
Students may bring in a healthy snack each day. We will have snack late in the afternoon. Students may also keep a water bottle at school. Please send in water bottles that have spill proof lids. Water bottles may be kept at student's seats if they have spill proof lids only.
Students will be taking chrome books home this year and it is the responsibility of the student to charge them each night at home. We will be using them on a daily basis at school. We have not been given the exact date on when chrome books will be passed out to students at this point. I will let you know once I am informed.
Please feel free to email me with any questions that you may have about the first week of school. aimeenoskowiak@nixaschools.net

I hope you are having a wonderful summer,
Ms. Noskowiak

Greetings,
The countdown is on. We are down to 9 days of school. Chromebooks were turned in today and library books will no longer be checked out. We are finishing up some testing in Math. I will be sending DRA and SRI scores to you through Seesaw. The DRA is our reading score and the SRI is the vocabulary/comprehension assessment. Report cards will go home with students on the last day of school.

We are having field day on this Friday. Students should wear comfortable clothes with tennis shoes. They may bring a water bottle as well. Parents are more than welcome to come help volunteer. It is an all day event and we will start first thing in the morning.

We had a fun game of kickball today to represent the letter K. Tomorrow we will do activities around the letter L and the word lightening. We will have one fun activity a day until the last day of school with the letters of the alphabet.

Students had a fun time preparing a google slide show with their research projects. We watched them in class today.

April 25th, 2017

Greetings,
We are down to less than 4 weeks of school. I can hardly believe how fast this year has went by. Our last day of school is scheduled for May 18th. We will be asking students to turn in their library books and chromebooks by May 5th. Students will need to turn in their charger with their
chromebooks.
Please try to have your child at school every day over the next two weeks for testing. We will complete our end of year DRA and SRI testing. Students that have earned every blue ribbon in Study Island for math and reading will earn a blue ribbon the last week of school. Several students have already accomplished this goal. Students may work on their Study Island ribbons at home in the evenings. Be sure to ask your child about his/her progress with their ribbons. They can show you what they have earned so far on their chrome books.
Summer School will be May 30-June 23 at Mathews. You can find more information and the registration can be found here: http://www.nixapublicschools.net/domain/384 We hope you can join us!
We have some special ABC days scheduled for the remainder of the year. Each day we will do a special activity with a letter in the alphabet. For example; B-bubble day, C-chalk day. This week we will have bubble day on Tuesday and chalk day on Wednesday.
I want to thank all of the parents who joined us on the field trip last week to Smallin Cave. We got a little wet, but we still had a good time. We learned some interesting facts about the Osage Indians and the Civil War. I hope you enjoyed the photos that were sent to you through Seesaw.
I will not be making behavior charts for our red folders for the remainder of the year. If there is an issue with a student, I will contact parents through email. Due to being a paper free school we have not used our red folders much this year and we will probably not need them to much for the rest of the year as well. So no worries if you do not see a red folder sent home.
We will have the mile run in P.E. on Wednesday of this week. Please be sure that students wear tennis shoes.

Greetings,
We had a very nice turn out for Open House tonight. Our doors will also be open on Thursday night from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. You are invited to come see what we have been up to. Our class photo and spring pictures went really well today. You will have an opportunity to purchase individual spring pictures in a few weeks.

On March 7th students are invited to dress up as their favorite character in a book. We will be doing some fun Dr. Seuss activities on March 6th and 7th.

We had a lot of fun doing our presidential research papers. Students spent a lot of time using different resources to gather facts and then they put those facts into an informational paper. When we finished the papers, students made a facejack video presentation about their president.

We will be having our 2nd grade Spring Concert on March 28th. We are still in need of a few kitchen appliances for our performance. We could use some wooden spoons, large pots and pans. Any donated items would be appreciated. Please send them to school anytime next week. We will return the items to you when we are finished using them.

Our 2nd grade field trip will be on April 20th. We will be going to Smallin Cave. More information on the exact details will come out after Spring Break.

Greetings,
We had a wonderful day celebrating our 100th day of school. Students participated in 100 day activities in the morning and we learned the value of $100 this afternoon. Some students dressed up as 100 years old and they were absolutely the cutest old people on the earth.
Our Valentine's Day Party will be on February 14th. We will have a small party in our classroom. The PTA will provide a snack for the students. We will be exchanging Valentine's Day cards. I will send home a list of student names in the near future. We have 21 students in our classroom. Students may create a Valentine's Day box at home and bring it to school. If your child does not create a box I will provide a bag for them to put their cards in.

January 10th, 2017

Greetings,
We have started the week off with a lot of students being absent due to illness. We had 7 out on Monday and 5 gone on Tuesday. From what I am hearing there is a stomach bug and strep going around.
Report cards will be going home on Friday of this week if we don't miss school due to an ice storm. I sure hope the ice does not get here. I sent SRI scores to you on Seesaw. If you have questions about them, please email me.
I wanted to share how amazing it has been passing out our homeless packs to people on the streets in Springfield. What a blessing you have been in providing these packs for them. If you could see the looks on their faces, you would be thrilled.
We will be starting a unit on soil and rocks this month. Be looking for a sing up genius soon. We are in need of some soil and other items to help with this. In math we are learning about shapes and their attributes and learning to create an array to solve simple multiplication problems. We will be creating a how to project this month also. Students need to pick a how to project. They will write a paper on how to create their project, then present how to make it in class. Can't wait for these!!!
Just a reminder that we do not have school on January 16th!!! That could change if we end up missing school on Friday for ice.

Have a great week,

Ms. Noskowiak
